Where and hot to start writing a rootkit ??

hi
i am newbie to rookkits..but having exp in c/c++/shell programming/windows/Linux.can any one please give me a hint where and how to start. i am not meant for any hacking or hijacking.strongly want to learn the concepts.can any one please give me a soft copy of the well known book" Subverting the Windows Kernel By: Greg Hoglund and Jamie Butler".
